Barnstable/Hyannis TDI Business Relief and Recovery Grant Program

The Town of Barnstable and MassDevelopment established a partnership through its Transformative Development Initiative (TDI) to promote economic growth in Hyannis’ East End in 2019.  That partnership, together with the Downtown Hyannis Community Development Corporation, is proud to announce the availability of a grant program to assist storefront businesses and cultural non-profits in and around the Hyannis East End TDI District impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. 

This program will provide a limited number of grants of $2,000 to $8,000 to assist storefront businesses and cultural non-profits within and in close proximity to the East End TDI District that have been impacted by the current COVID-19 public health requirements.  The total program budget is currently $30,000.  The grants are designed to serve as flexible emergency funding in an effort to support as many small businesses and cultural institutions in the downtown through these unprecedented times. 

The limited number of grant awards to individual businesses and organizations shall not exceed $8,000. Completed applications must be submitted by 11:59pm  on May 6, 2020.

Eligibility Criteria

The storefront business and art/cultural institution must:

1. Be located within the TDI district, or within 300 feet of the district
2. Be locally (Cape Cod) owned.  Evidence of sole proprietorship/ownership should be submitted with the application. 
3. Have not more than two locations.
4. Have lost the ability to operate because of COVID-19 public health requirements, including restaurants, retail shops, barbershops and nail salons; OR demonstrate that the COVID-19 outbreak caused a minimum 25% decline in revenues since February 1, 2020 (using average revenue for the same two month period in 2019 and/or average monthly revenue based on total 2019 revenue).
5. Have been in operation for at least one year.
6. Have no outstanding tax liens or legal judgments.
7. Demonstrate a desire to continue operations by applying for a U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Economic Injury Disaster Loan specifically related to the COVID-19 pandemic and/or another disaster relief program established to support small businesses or non-profits in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
