Mission Statement: “To promote the production and preservation of
balanced housing resources that address the unmet needs of the Town of
Barnstable”
The Housing Committee facilitates the development of and equal access to
affordable housing. The Committee also serves as the Town’s Local Housing
Partnership. In this role, and in conjunction with the Town Manager, the
Committee reviews and makes recommendations on housing proposals that are
seeking local support under the Department of Housing and Community
Development (DHCD)’s Local Initiative Program (LIP).
The Committee advises the Town Manager and Town Council regarding
policies and programs aimed at reaching the Town’s goal of making a
minimum of 10% of its housing stock affordable in perpetuity. The
Committee meets with the Town Council to advise the Councilors of issues
pertaining to affordable housing and to discuss policies to effectuate
fair and affordable housing in the Town.
